A Life Together

On Sunday, July 2, 2006, family and friends gathered to celebrate the 60th Wedding Anniversary of Helane and George Goldfarb. If you were there, the accompanying photos will be a happy reminder of the good time we all had. If you weren’t you may enjoy picking out the people that look vaguely familiar.

Helane and George are cutting the cake. David has a graying mustache and hair and doesn’t wear glasses. Mark didn’t make the day in person, as he was committed to his Blues Festival in Portland, Oregon. Larry has very closely cropped hair and no facial hair. Bruce wears glasses and has facial hair. Susan has long brown hair.

In terms of spouses, David’s Patty had to mind the gallery in Solana Beach, CA. Larry’s Ciddy had family obligations in Patchogue, NY. Bruce’s Bridgett was there, as was Sue’s Mike Nicotra. In the next generation, David and Patty’s Dan Tosto attended, along with pregnant wife Dee (due date: October 9). Larry brought Tamara and Toren. Bruce brought Phillip and little Kaya; Max brought himself. Sue brought Alan and Amy.

Mike Nicotra’s folks, Ange and Nancy celebrated with us as did his brother and sister in law, Frank and Patty.

George and Helane’s niece, Donna Rittenberg Verdun, flew in for the day. She’s Helane’s sister’s (Thelma) daughter. Other family attending were Gilda and Lawrence Laufer (he’s Helane’s first cousin, son of her father’s brother Emil) and Harry Weinrib, widower of Shirley Laufer (Emil’s daughter).

Bruce and Elaine Brock were on hand. He’s nearly a Goldfarb, having spent years in the family and acquiring many of its bad habits. Bruce’s mom Lori and Helane were best of friends.

Those who didn’t attend were generous in their written messages, which Helane and George have kept safe. Notable messages were received from Dot and (Dr.) Marshall Solomon and Dr. Raphael Wolpert, chums of Helane and George since Medical College of Virginia Dental School days.

Others attending:

Mickey and Dan Epter – friends of longstanding from Temple Beth Am;

Ginny and Maxwell Ellis – Ginny’s a Laufer cousin, and Mackie’s fun to have at a party;

Joan and (Dr.) Mike Stern – Uncle Mike is a fellow Alpha Omegan of George’s and Auntie Joan is, well, Auntie Joan;

Shirley and Bob Muzzio – loving and patient next door neighbors on Ruskin;

Betsy and Sam Sterman – friends of longstanding and fellow whiskey aficcionados;

Caryl and Marvin Ashkin – friends of longstanding;

Martha and Peter Schermerhorn – former next door neighbor on Capen and good friend of Sue’s.

Please visit again in a week or so when we hope to have new photos and maybe a video up.
